In 2021, total US government revenue was over $4 trillion. About half of that came from personal income taxes, while about 30% came from Social Security and Medicare taxes.

Despite trillions in revenue, as in most years, US federal spending was high in 2021, leaving the federal government with a budget deficit of $2.7 trillion.
It was the second largest deficit on record, down from a peak of $3.1 trillion in 2020 during the height of the global pandemic.

Costs are expected to decrease further in 2022. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office of AP News, the 2022 deficit is projected to fall to $1.15 trillion and continue to decline for the next three years.
Debts Owed To Vs. Debts Owed By The U.s
In March 2021, the US national debt reached an all-time high of $28 trillion. This includes intergovernmental holdings, which is about $6 trillion in debt owed to the government itself.
While overall debt is rising, the cost of servicing that debt has actually fallen in recent years due to low interest rates.
However, with interest rates rising again this year, the current supply of national debt is becoming more expensive.
And finally, when the time comes for the US government to refinance its debt, a larger portion of the federal budget will have to be allocated to debt service, putting pressure on other areas of spending. America is known for this. Heavy military and defense spending. In 2020, the nation ranked first in the world in military spending at $778 billion, surpassing the next nine biggest spenders, which totaled $703.6 billion.
Trends In Health Care Spending
One factor is the military-industrial complex (MIC) that adds US defense dominance to a long tradition of defense and arms industries working closely with the US government and armed forces.

According to the United Nations, most of the civilian casualties were caused by heavy artillery fire, rockets and long-range explosives, such as airstrikes, and were concentrated in Donetsk and Luhansk and other areas still under Ukrainian control.
Additionally, new estimates from Kiev put the death toll at around 13,000 Ukrainian servicemen or soldiers, which have yet to be confirmed by the military.
