Depending on your current level of education, this may mean applying to an undergraduate or graduate program. While your undergraduate degree generally does not need to be in education or consulting, it is often helpful to choose a major that reflects the knowledge and understanding of the theories and practices necessary for consulting. Students doing shifts such as psychology, sociology or counselors can find that they have a sense of the work they are involved in when they become counselors at school and, as a result, are well prepared for graduate studies.
